External Antenna Solutions – Why IP Rating is Important!!!

For external mount antennas, which are installed on vehicles or in exposed sites, Ingress Protection (IP) is a critical aspect of the product design, not just for ingress protection to the antenna enclosure, but also to provide effective sealing of the antenna to the mounting panel.

Panorama’s new generation 5G multi-function antennas are tested to the highest IP rating level, IP69K which provides protection from high pressure jet washing.

What is IP Rating?

IP is the abbreviation for Ingress Protection and is defined in international standard IEC 60529. It classifies the level of protection provided against the intrusion of Solid Objects (including body parts like hands and fingers), dust, accidental contact, and liquids to electrical enclosures.

An IP rating has two digits, sometimes followed by a letter denoting specific materials, hazards or testing scenarios. The first digit, between 0-6 indicates the degree of protection from ingress of solid objects (ranging from the user to other potentially harmful particulates such as dust or dirt). The second digit, between 0-9, defines the level of protection to moisture ingress at varying intensities, angles, depths and pressures of exposure or immersion.
